The MI Cape think tank is doing all possible to make things right in the upcoming season. Simon Katich, the head coach from the previous season, and Jacob Oram, the bowling coach, have both left the Cape Town-based team. Currently serving as their new head coach is former South African spinner Robin Peterson. Notably, in 2023, he served as General Manager of the MI Cape Town branch.
Lasith Malinga, a renowned Sri Lankan pacer, has been hired to serve as the bowling coach. Due to his nine seasons of playing for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and his present position as their bowling coach, Malinga enjoys a great working connection with the MI management. Hashim Amla, a famed former South African batter, will also continue to serve as MI Cape Town’s batting coach.
For the uninitiated, Peterson and Malinga were the head coach and bowling coach of the MI New York team that won the Major League Cricket USA’s inaugural season earlier this year.
MI Cape Town has retained captain Rashid Khan and Dewald Brevis for the SA20 2024 tournament.
Rashid Khan, the stalwart Afghanistan leg spinner and MI Cape Town captain who captained the team last season, has been retained for the next SA20 competition as well.
