In ODI cricket, Suryakumar Yadav hasn’t yet made a significant contribution: Sunil Gavaskar

In ODI cricket, Suryakumar Yadav hasn't yet made a significant contribution: Sunil Gavaskar

In terms of T20I cricket, Suryakumar Yadav is perhaps the finest player. His tremendous variety of strokes, which cover every nook and cranny of a cricket ground, may obliterate any bowling assault. The Mumbai hitter finally had the chance to represent India in the shortest format of the game after years and years of toiling on the domestic circuit and in the Indian Premier League, and he was an instant success.

Indian fans expected Suryakumar Yadav to put on a show for a longer amount of time when he made his ODI debut. That wasn’t the case, either, as the aggressive hitter had a difficult time adjusting his style to the longer white-ball cricket format. He was chosen by the Indian team management over Sanju Samson, who averages over 55, for the 15-man roster for the upcoming ODI World Cup. Suryakumar Yadav may have won the game because of his ability to challenge the bowling from ball one, though.

Sunil Gavaskar, a legendary Indian cricketer, believes that Suryakumar Yadav hasn’t performed to his full capacity in ODIs and would need to wait for his opportunities in the World Cup. The former captain of India encouraged Shreyas Iyer to bat at No. 4 in the World Cup batting order.

Suryakumar hasn’t made a significant contribution to ODI cricket yet. He only bats in the final 15-20 overs, during which he makes use of his T20 skills, which are unquestionably crucial as well. Ishan, Rahul, and Hardik can all perform the same task, though. Iyer is officially No. 4 now. Suryakumar Yadav will have to wait, and if he does get a shot at No. 4, he must hit a huge hundred and demonstrate that he is capable of making a lot of runs, according to a remark from Gavaskar that was obtained by NDTV.

Suryakumar Yadav played well against Australia in his series.

In the three-match ODI series against Australia, the 33-year-old performed admirably. He finished with 130 runs in three games, two half-centuries, an average of 65, and a strike rate of 139.78.

Suryakumar must have been very confident going into the main event after this series. When India face Australia on October 8, he might not be in the starting lineup. However, having runs under his belt from the Australia series may serve him well if he manages to land a spot in the side later on in the competition.
