Following extensive and careful consideration, the three-member Cricket Advisory Committee, which consists of Sulakshana Naik, Ashok Malhotra, and Jatin Paranjape, recommended Amol Muzumdar to assume the role of Head Coach for the Indian women’s team. The committee interviewed the shortlisted candidates for the position.
After Ramesh Powar was removed from the role as part of restructuring, the post remained empty for ten months before the BCCI confirmed Muzumdar’s appointment on October 25.
Throughout the course of his 21-year stellar career, Amol Muzumdar—a domestic titan—scored over 11,000 first-class runs in 171 matches, including 30 centuries. In addition, he played in 14 T20 matches and more than 100 List A games. After representing Mumbai in multiple Ranji Trophy victories, he went on to represent Andhra Pradesh and Assam.
“I welcome the appointment of Mr. Amol Muzumdar as the Head Coach of the Indian Women’s Cricket Team,” stated Roger Binny, President of the BCCI. I have no doubt that the squad will improve and play well in all game formats during his leadership. The squad has regularly put on outstanding performances in bilateral and multi-nation competitions, and I have no doubt that Amol Muzumdar direction and roadmap would be very beneficial to our players.
“I thank the CAC for conducting a thorough evaluation and selection process to identify the new Head Coach for our national team and I congratulate Amol Muzumdar on his appointment,” stated Jay Shah, the Honorary Secretary of the BCCI. He has a deep grasp of the current game and contributes a multitude of knowledge and experience. With a strong commitment to women’s cricket, the BCCI will keep creating the conditions needed for the team to succeed on and off the field.
To ensure that all of our players realize their potential, the Board will collaborate closely with Amol Muzumdar and offer him complete support.
“I feel incredibly honored and privileged to have been named the Head Coach of the Indian Women’s Cricket Team,” Amol Muzumdar declared. I express my gratitude to the BCCI and CAC for their support and faith in my vision and plan for Team India. This is a big job, and I’m excited to work directly with individuals that have skill and give them the support and training they need to succeed. Due to the two World Cups that are scheduled during those two years, they are quite significant. In collaboration with the coaching and support team, we will strive to fulfill all requirements and maximize our chances of success.
