Famous English cricket player Chris Woakes made waves when he alerted the umpires in advance about a helmet problem to prevent being out of the game during a timeout. The viral video has been making the rounds on social media.
A recent contentious incident that took place during Bangladesh and Sri Lanka’s ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 match served as the inspiration for Chris Woakes’ actions. Because his helmet strap broke, veteran Sri Lankan batsman Angelo Mathews was removed during a timeout before he could face a ball.

Mathews became the first player in international cricket history to be disqualified during a timeout after captain Shakib Al Hasan appealed to the umpire and Mathews was returned to the pavilion without having played a ball.
But when England faced the Netherlands in the tournament’s 40th game, Woakes made a sly jab at them. On Wednesday, November 8, both teams took the field at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
Chris Woakes’ helmet had some problems as he was walking out to bat.
The 34-year-old went to the match officials and let them know about the problem. In addition, he was spotted chuckling over the same thing, making a subtle reference to the Mathews and Shakib event.
England posts a large sum for the Netherlands to follow.
Speaking of the England against. Netherlands game, England took the field first in the batting order. Dawid Malan gave the team a strong start, scoring 87 runs off of 74 deliveries. In addition, Ben Stokes scored an outstanding 108 runs, helping the first innings total of 339 runs to be posted.
England, who is currently 10th in the standings and out of the tournament, will try to salvage a point against the equally suffering Netherlands.
