I practice shots to help the team win games, not to improve my technical skill: Virat Kohli Virat Kohli

In a special interview with Star Sports, Virat Kohli discussed the pivotal moments that shaped his match against Pakistan during the T20 World Cup and the unique nostalgia that comes with going back to those times.

The Indian cricket player highlighted the significant effect of such documented moments by sharing his perspective on seeing his own famous shot, which the ICC dubbed the “Shot of the Century.” He explores the fundamentals of cricket improvement, explaining how his attention is directed not only towards technical skill but also toward strategic improvements that would help the team win.

With his perceptive comments, Virat Kohli offers an insight into his cricketing thinking and the appreciation he feels for being a part of moments that capture the essence and power of the game’s beauty. Immediately following the live broadcast of the India-Netherlands game, viewers and supporters in India may catch the second installment of “Believe: The Diwali Miracle” featuring Virat Kohli on Star Sports.

“I have seen this a lot of times, but these small things in the middle, these are very special because obviously, you have lived these moments but you haven’t seen it again,” said Virat Kohli , recalling his iconic shot that went viral during his match against Pakistan and was dubbed the “Shot of the Century” by the ICC at the T20 World Cup. I am incredibly nostalgic about those little moments, and it is a good kind of nostalgia. You are aware of what you did, and someone has seen that moment because it was somehow captured.

When he made the “Shot of the Century,” Virat Kohli acknowledged that there were other forces at work as well, saying, “You realize this in a moment.” I would have given them everything if someone had approached me at the age of ten and said, “Virat Kohli will be 35.” If someone had claimed to have written down what was going to happen and signed it, they would have been lying.

It’s a compacted version of a broader product, if they knew how my 25-year adventure would unfold and how it happened to arrive here. I had no idea what would happen or how it would happen. I can’t sit here and claim it; it happened just now. I will never forget that night because it was such a powerful experience, and that is an injustice to the larger package. Nevermind. And for that reason, the same emotions were felt by others who witnessed it. Everyone felt the purity of the moment; it wasn’t like someone said or asserted it.

In addition, Virat Kohli discussed how he has pushed himself as a cricket player to constantly get better and how he believes that this mindset has helped him succeed in his career.

“I’m quite sure you can name it that. One thing is for sure: practice your technique and skills. There is one where you consider strategies you can employ to win the game or consider how much better you can play if you can play this way. Many people are unaware of this batting improvement. When you consider what you can do to up your game in order to win the match, you can improve.

It’s not what you do to become a perfect batsman. Few people are aware that practicing is what allows me to learn new shots, score runs for the team, and win the game—not to look good technically. My ability to cover every space and score runs ought to be my driving force. I believe that’s a lovely way to phrase it; nobody has offered me insight into this matter, yet it feels like a gift none the less.

“I can just feel thankful; it is not something I will ever claim. How could you not be appreciative, after all? You were selected to be present throughout the execution of a moment that you felt was both pure and intense at the same time. Should I witness such an instance, I shall recall Sachin sir’s World Cup sixes in Sharjah. Everything comes to mind since I remember when this happened too, and I’m right there.
