The erstwhile cricket regulatory body, Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), rendered a decision about Angelo Mathews’ “timed-out” dismissal.
The event took place on November 6, during Sri Lanka’s ODI World Cup 2023 play at the Arun Jaitely stadium in Delhi, vs Bangladesh.
Mathews took over 90 seconds to reach the 30-yard circle, indicating that he was not prepared to face the ball within the legally mandated two minutes. But then he had a problem with his helmet, which prevented him from being ready to take on the bowler. The MCC said in a statement that both umpires had discovered that the delay had lasted longer than two minutes and that Timed-out had not been triggered prior to the other team’s appeal.
The MCC claims that the Sri Lankan batsman failed to notify the umpires or Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan that he would require a replacement piece of equipment. Rather, he simply gestured at the changing area, and the replacements arrived and gave it to him. Notably, Angelo Mathews informed Shakib Al Hasan and the umpires exactly what had transpired. Although he was at the crease, the officials ruled that he had run out of time.
Two minutes had passed when the appeal was made, and the umpires appropriately called Mathews out: MDC
Additionally, the MCC statement stated that the umpires’ decision to call the strike in the Sri Lanka vs. Bangladesh ODI World Cup 2023 match was correct because the batter took longer than two minutes to complete the strike. Furthermore, if the captain of the other team had withdrawn his appeal, the umpires ought to have resolved the matter. In this case, Shakib chose to withdraw his appeal, and the umpires’ decision was made in accordance with cricket law.
“The umpires correctly knocked out Mathews since time had not been called and more than two minutes had passed at the time of the appeal. Actually, in accordance with the Laws of Cricket, the umpires had no other options. The MCC closed their statement by saying, “The Club would want to address the questions that the MCC has been asked since the event on Monday.
