Former Pakistani bowler Mohammad Amir has stated that the foundation of the country’s cricket system is still sound and has attributed the team’s current struggles to Babar Azam’s attitude. Amir compared it to the significant contribution that former Indian captain MS Dhoni made in developing players like Ravindra Jadeja. He underlined the necessity of a captain to spur players’ development in a manner similar to Dhoni’s on Jadeja’s.
Mohammad Amir wasn’t holding back when criticizing Ramiz Raja, the former PCB chief who backs Babar Azam’s captaincy and calls for systemic change. He emphasized that the system was the same in 1992 when Imran Khan led his team to the World Cup victory. His position was unambiguous: the mindset needs to change, not the system. This echoes his belief in upholding continuity and leadership influence similar to that of the Khan era.
“We argue that Dhoni transformed Indian cricket, but the system was never altered by him. People were always asking how long he would continue to give Ashwin and Jadeja opportunities. We can now declare Jadeja the best all-around player in the world. “MS Dhoni has given them the team,” Amir stated on the YouTube channel of Haarana Mana Hay.
“What is the framework? It’s not a barrier. The task of overseeing Pakistan cricket has been divided among five and six persons. Among them is a captain as well. We won the World Cup in 1992 under Imran Khan, using the same approach. Our team advanced to the finals and beat teams all over the world in 1999. The same method we used to win the 2009 T20 World Cup also helped us win the 2017 Champions Trophy,” he said.
In the Champions Trophy Final, Sarfaraz Khan supported me: Mohammad Amir
The 31-year-old described in detail a crucial incident in the 2017 Champions Trophy final when he, Sarfaraz Khan, the former captain of Pakistan, pushed coach Mickey Arthur to start him instead of Rumman Raees. Amir’s masterful new ball spell foiled India’s chase, rendering Hardik Pandya’s heroics in the later innings useless. With impressive figures of 3 for 16, Amir helped Pakistan win by 180 runs and secure the Champions Trophy.
“I had back spasms and missed the semifinal.” Rumman Raees had a successful game. “Amir is our main bowler, he is fit and he will play in the final,” Saifi bhai responded in the final.
