The BCCI president and former captain of India, Sourav Ganguly, is fully in favor of Rohit Sharma’s team defeating Australia in the championship match. He underlined how important it is to continue playing in the same manner as they did throughout the 2023 World Cup. Ganguly emphasized that, in order for India to win the title match that is scheduled to take place in Ahmedabad on November 19, they must adopt a similar strategy to that of the cricket team.
India won nine out of the 10 games to secure the top spot in the group stage with an astounding 18 points. With a remarkable net run rate of 2.570, they led all other teams. Ganguly acknowledged India’s impressive performance and emphasized the difficulty of defeating such a strong team in the championship. He wished India well, but he also recognized Australia’s strength and competitiveness.
“India is currently looking fantastic. My best wishes are with them for Ahmedabad. India has performed incredibly well in the competition; all that stands between them and the World Cup championship is one match against Australia. It will be difficult to stop India if they play any differently than they have so far in the competition. Australia has a strong team, so it should be an exciting encounter,” Ganguly told reporters on Friday, as reported by India Today.
Path to the 2023 ICC World Cup Finals
Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill worked well together at the crease in the semi-final match against New Zealand, laying the groundwork for Virat Kohli to achieve his record-breaking 50th ODI century, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar. Daryl Mitchell’s century helped New Zealand reach 398 runs, but they were still 70 runs short. Following their early defeats against South Africa and India, Australia mounted a valiant recovery in the remaining games.
The Australians, who had been languishing at the bottom, came back and won seven straight games to earn 14 points and a postseason berth. Despite being small favorites in their return with South Africa, Pat Cummins’ team got off to a scorching start, limiting the Black Caps to 24/4. Despite David Miller of the Proteas making a strong century, Australia advanced to the playoffs thanks to a thrilling three-wicket victory that Cummins and Mitchell Starc secured.
