On the eve of the 2023 Cricket World Cup final, Rohit Sharma paid a moving homage to coach Rahul Dravid. On November 19, India and Australia will square off in a summit match at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
Both Rohit and Rahul Dravid batting ideologies represent a yin-and-yang relationship. But when these two legends come together, they become a well-balanced pair, fusing their disparate approaches to achieve a common goal. The opening batsman stated before the game’s pivotal conclusion that they are all working together to honor and perform for Dravid.
“He has made a huge impact on Indian cricket. Additionally, he has the desire to take part in this momentous occasion. And it’s our responsibility to take care of him,” Cricbuzz cited Rohit as adding.
The captain went on to discuss the coach’s responsibility of giving players the opportunity to express themselves freely and giving them their fullest support.
“I have one thing to consider, and the coach has another to consider before agreeing to anything. It’s apparent that there is a big difference between how I play these days and how Rahul Bhai has played his cricket. It speaks a lot about him because he agreed and gave me the flexibility and liberty to go play the way we wanted to play.
“Also, the way he stood by the players in difficult times where, during the T20 World Cup, we had a good run up until that semi-final and we lost and how he reacted to certain situations and informing the players about this is what we are looking at and all of that says a lot about him as well,” he said.
The 36-year-old went on to emphasize how important it is for participants in this competition to understand their roles. He said he thought the team as a whole had created a style of cricket that has captured the attention of cricket fans around the world. The skipper also emphasized how important it was for Dravid to outline exactly what was expected of each player in the current competition.
“If you make a decision, we must follow through on it. It goes without saying that specific people have been assigned positions based on what they can do to help the team and what their responsibilities are for it. And we played that kind of cricket, I believe, 99.9% of the time. 1% of which I have removed because perfection is unachievable every time. The opening batter continued, “That’s why I took away that 0.1%, but I’m really happy with the message that Rahul and I gave the players, and they responded to it pretty well.
