The ODI World Cup 2023 final resulted in the expiration of Rahul Dravid contract as head coach of India. According to reports, the renowned former pacer Ashish Nehra was offered the position but turned it down. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Wednesday, November 29, that Dravid and his assistants will remain in their positions as India’s head coach until at least the 2024 T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies.
The senior men’s Team India support staff and head coach Rahul Dravid have extended their contracts, according to a statement from the Board of Control for Cricket in India. The Indian cricket board issued a statement praising Dravid for his extraordinary professionalism and acknowledging his crucial contribution in shaping the team.
With the T20 World Cup quickly approaching, Gautam Gambhir, a former teammate of Dravid’s from India, expressed his happiness with the development while also stating that it would not have been ideal to switch coaches and support staff.
“That Rahul has accepted it is a good thing, because the T20 World Cup is coming up and you don’t want to alter the entire support crew. News18 CricketNext cited Gautam Gambhir as saying, “We’re hoping to maintain our dominance and play quality cricket.
I appreciate the confidence that the BCCI and the office-bearers have placed in me. Rahul Dravid
The 50-year-old praised the BCCI for believing in and encouraging him and expressed his pride in the culture that has been established in the Indian locker room during his coaching career.
“I sincerely take pride in the culture we have established in the locker room. “I express my gratitude to the BCCI and the office bearers for their confidence in me, support of my vision, and assistance during this time,” Dravid stated following the contract extension.
“The responsibilities of this job require me to spend a lot of time away from home, and I am incredibly grateful for my family’s support and sacrifices. Their support work in the background has been crucial. After the World Cup, we are eager to take on new challenges and are still dedicated to achieving excellence. The past two years spent with Team India are indeed unforgettable. We have experienced both highs and lows together, and the group’s support and companionship have been incredible the entire time.
“I sincerely take pride in the culture we have established in the locker room. It is a culture that perseveres through hardships as well as triumphs. Our crew is incredibly talented and skilled, and we have placed a strong emphasis on following the correct procedures and adhering to our plans, which has directly affected the end product,” he continued.
