On Saturday, December 9th, in Mumbai, the much-anticipated Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction will take place. The main women’s T20 competition in India is expected to hold its second installment in February or March of next year, following a successful inaugural edition.
A number of prominent figures from the world of international cricket will be auctioned off as the five clubs engage in a competitive bidding process to acquire them for their roster. There will be 165 players in total up for grabs, with 104 Indian athletes and 61 international players. A maximum of 18 players may be included in the roster for each side, and there are 30 spots available overall across the five franchises—nine of which are overseas. By October 15, 2023, all five teams had to have revealed their rosters of retained and released players in order to proceed with the auction. The team that finished second in the previous season, the Delhi Capitals, has kept the greatest number of players (15). The team that is currently the defending champion, the Mumbai Indians, has kept 13 players in its lineup, along with the UP Warriors.
