On Tuesday, December 19, at the IPL 2024 auction, Australia left-arm seamer Mitchell Starc made history by becoming the most expensive player in the IPL auction ever. The towering left-arm seamer, who is set to make his eight-year comeback to the lucrative league, was sold to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for an astounding 24.75 crore.
A video featuring Starc’s spouse, Australia Women captain Alyssa Healy, celebrating their historic candidacy went viral when it was announced. It was eventually discovered, though, that the video was outdated and had nothing to do with Starc’s record sales.
Healy addressed this, however, saying that she “wasn’t thinking of beers” and that she was at the gym getting ready for the impending multi-format series against India.
“I was in the fitness center. As per social media, I was not considering beer. Actually, I was working hard at the gym and watching everything happen. But certainly, it was a great day for him and Pat (Cummins),” The Cricket Lounge cited Healy as saying.

Starc has only participated in two IPL tournaments, with Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2014 and 2015, respectively. Throughout his 27 IPL appearances, the Sydney-born cricketer picked up 34 wickets at an economy of 7.17 and an average of 20.38 while playing for the team. Notably, KKR paid INR 9.4 crore to get him at the 2018 IPL auction. However, a leg ailment forced him to withdraw from the competition.
SRH purchased Pat Cummins for INR 20.50 crore.

During the IPL 2023 mini-auction, Cummins smashed Sam Curran’s record when he was sold to the Punjab Kings for INR 18.50 crore.
