Hanuma Vihari has resigned as captain for the remainder of the Ranji Trophy season, which is a huge step forward for Andhra cricket. Ricky Bhui will now take charge of the Andhra team after a valiant tie with Bengal in the first round. He has resigned as captain, but he is still a key member of the squad as Andhra prepares to play Mumbai in a Group B match at the Sharad Pawar Academy in BKC, Mumbai.
The previous season, Hanuma Vihari led Andhra to the knockout stages, and he last played for India in a match against England in Birmingham in 2022. They were defeated by Madhya Pradesh in the quarterfinals, though, so their trip was short-lived. He was particularly noteworthy for his incredible fortitude in that match, having to bat mostly with his left hand after breaking it on an Avesh Khan ball.
He demonstrated his batting prowess the previous season, averaging 35 runs per inning with two half-centuries. He scored 490 runs in 14 innings. In the Irani Cup, the veteran cricketer captained the rest of India against Ranji winners Saurashtra and led the South Zone in the Duleep Trophy.
Hanuma Vihari demonstrates his talent on the home circuit with outstanding performances.
The batting all-rounder was rumored to be considering a move to Madhya Pradesh, where he would be coached by the well-known Chandrakant Pandit, in order to restart his Test career before the current season officially began. However, Andhra managed to keep him until the eleventh hour. He didn’t do well in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and didn’t sell at the IPL 2024 auction, but he made a big difference in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, scoring 229 runs at a fast strike rate of 149.67.
Ricky Bhui takes over for the 30-year-old after he led Andhra on 22 occasions in various formats and five times in Ranji Trophy matches. He scored his 15th first-class century with a brilliant innings of 175 against Bengal recently, solidifying his place as Andhra’s captain for the current Ranji Trophy campaign.
