After initiating talks with English County Cricket Club Middlesex, Zaka Ashraf, the head of the PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) Management Committee, established a strategy to host the T10 League in Pakistan. Exhibition matches in Rawalpindi, slated for January 24–26, were part of the proposed festival. However, the board’s request for authorization was turned down by the Pakistani government.
As per a Cricket Pakistan report, PCB has transferred a full project briefing to the Ministry of Inter Provincial Coordination (IPC) in Islamabad. The exhibition match budget was then lowered to PKR 28 crore. At the same time, the ministry forbade the installation of seats, solar panels, and fans in stadiums in a letter issued to PCB headquarters in Lahore. The PCB was also prohibited by the ministry from entering into Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with any cricket body in order to run the league.
Zaka Ashraf will oversee the issue at the next PCB Management Committee meeting, according to Cricket Pakistan.
The creation of a new governing board, with four delegates from each of four departments and areas, is one of the items on the agenda for the meeting. The former prime minister Shahbaz Sharif has proposed Ashraf and Mustafa Ramday for cabinet positions. Within a week, the governing board is anticipated to have its initial session and accept nominations for the chairperson. In addition, possible objections will be discussed at the meeting, and hearings will be held before the final list of applicants is revealed.
According to a Sportstar article, PCB has already requested permission from the government to hold a T10 league later in January. There might be some ambiguity regarding the players’ availability, though.
“All of the contracted players should participate in the T10 league, which the board’s cricket management committee plans to hold from January 24 to 28. The issue is that some of the players have already committed to playing in the Bangladesh Premier League and others have received contracts to play in the Emirates International T20 League in the United Arab Emirates. Many players who have received competitive contract offers for the BPL are still awaiting their NOCs, a trustworthy source told Sportstar.
