At its annual general meeting, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) unanimously decided to extend President Jay Shah’s tenure by one year. The decision, which Sri Lanka Cricket President Shammi Silva announced for the second time, received unanimous approval from all ACC members.
Jay Shah, the youngest administrator to be reappointed as Asian Cricket Council President, assumed leadership in January 2021 and has since played a significant role in advancing cricket’s expansion throughout the Asian area. The Asia Cup was successfully held in the T20 and ODI formats in 2022 and 2023, respectively, thanks to the ACC’s innovative leadership, demonstrating Asia’s ability to host elite cricket tournaments.
Silva expressed his gratitude to Shah for his vital role in bringing cricket to Asia, emphasizing how he helped the ACC make great strides in growing and marketing the game throughout the continent.
According to Sri Lanka Cricket President Shammi Silva, “Jay Shah has been instrumental in leading the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) to noteworthy advancements in the promotion and growth of cricket throughout the Asian region.
During Jay Shah’s leadership, successful marquee tournaments have taken place, and there has also been a concerted attempt to promote cricket in developing countries such as Afghanistan, Bhutan, China, Nepal, and Cambodia. The ACC board also acknowledged Shah’s strategic financial expertise, which he demonstrated by securing lucrative commercial and broadcast deals.
“I am happy that the idea received unanimous support from the ACC Board. Jay has a track record of increasing revenue through broadcast and commercial arrangements, directing the funds towards the local level and uplifting associate members,” Silva continued.
I appreciate the Asian Cricket Council Board’s ongoing faith in me. Jay Shah
Jay Shah expresses gratitude for the continued trust and emphasizes the dedication to the overall development of the game, particularly in areas where cricket is still in its infancy.
“I appreciate the ACC Board’s ongoing faith in me. We must continue to be dedicated to making sure that the sport develops holistically, with an emphasis on areas where it is still in its early stages. “The ACC is dedicated to promoting cricket throughout Asia,” stated Shah.
