Against England in the second Test of the five-match series, Rajat Patidar made his Test debut for India. Patidar had to wait for his chance despite doing well on the local circuit since the middle order was filled with players like Ajinkya Rahane, Virat Kohli, and Cheteshwar Pujara. As KL Rahul and Virat Kohli are presently unavailable for selection, Patidar received his first cap from veteran cricketer Zaheer Khan upon being called up.
He formed an important partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal when batting at number five; however, he was out for 32 runs. Speaking about his delayed national team debut, Rajat Patidar said that there are many players in competition for spots in Indian cricket, which means there is a long waiting list. After the debut, he said he felt okay and that he didn’t feel under pressure because the night before his big day, he slept well.

On the opening day of the second Test against England, young Jaiswal was the star of the show. On the first day of play, India amassed 336-6 thanks to the opener’s 179 runs. Regarding his 70-run middle-order partnership with Jaiswal, Patidar stated that the intention was to go as deep into the game as possible and that Jaiswal possesses a unique skill.
