UP Warriorz invested Rs 1.3 crore on the young Vrinda Dinesh, who they hope can produce at the top of the order, as they decided to bolster their batting lineup during the WPL 2024 auctions in December. They also paid Rs 30 lakh for the accomplished English all-round player Danni Wyatt. Prior to the event, Reema Malhotra, Saba Karim, and Abhinav Mukund, JioCinema and Sports18 WPL gurus, examined their squad. Take a peek:
Reema Malhotra: Their batting seems to be stronger this season than it was the previous one. This time around, their batting lineup appears more formidable because in 2023, Kiran Navgire was unreliable, Laxmi Yadav had to withdraw due to injury, and Shweta Sehrawat had not accomplished anything. Their pace bowling department appears to be a small weak point at the moment. They don’t possess a true medium pacer. Thus, there can be an excessive reliance on spinners. They have Rajeshwari Gaikwad and Deepti Sharma, two excellent spinners.
I envision Vrinda Dinesh making it into the starting eleven, along with Saba Karim. With Alyssa Healy, she will start the inning. They tried Shweta Sehrawat last season, but her performance wasn’t all that great. UP is relying a lot on Vrinda because she appears to be a technically sound batter.
Abhinav Mukund: They concentrated on out-and-out hitters this time around after overspending on all-rounders the previous year. Poonam Khemnar, Gouher Sultana, Vrinda Dinesh, and Danni Wyatt are all excellent additions to our team and add value to it. After they released a few players, they didn’t have a lot of Indian hitters at their disposal. It was essential that UP Warriorz pick up and place Vrinda Dinesh at the top. It’s always helpful to have a solid backup at the top, and Shweta Sehrawat has been a little lackluster.
Abhinav Mukund regarding Dinesh: Let’s not overburden her. She finds this to be an intriguing opportunity. Sehrawat started off a little slow, so there was a lot of expectation on Healy to fire at the top last year. There was a lot of pressure on Tahlia McGrath, Deepti Sharma, and Sophie Ecclestone when Navgire started batting at No. 3.
