Following a fantastic season with the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League 2021, the Indian team management selected Varun Chakravarthy for the T20 World Cup that same year. He was chosen over Yuzvendra Chahal because, in the lucrative competition, his mystery bowling became very difficult for the hitters to decipher. But in his three outings, the Tamil Nadu spinner was unable to claim a wicket, hence he was unable to justify his place in the starting XI.
The 32-year-old was soon removed from the team. Varun Chakravarthy has revealed a plot against him after remaining silent for over three years, alleging outside parties were involved in keeping him off the field. He explained that although he had only had a minor injury, some people had made a great deal out of it.
It was particularly difficult because the injury I sustained shortly after the World Cup was quite minor. It took me only two or three weeks to get back on track, but after that, I was sidelined and people would always use my injury as an excuse—even though I hadn’t been hurt for that long. I’m not sure if this was just a rumor or if someone was only trying to discredit me by spreading this information. However, such is the unjust nature of life. I found it really difficult,” Varun said to CricXtasy.
IPL 2022 was a poor season due to the following events from 2021: Varun Chakravarthy
IPL 2022 didn’t go as planned, Varun Chakravarthy continued, because he was attempting to be overly desperate in the middle. He said that the events of 2021 had a psychological impact on him, which led to a decline in his play while he was attempting various strategies to rejoin the national squad. Interestingly, he took just six wickets in 11 tournament matches, which made matters more tricky.
“IPL 2022 was not a great season because of what happened to me following the World Cup in 2021, and I was itching to play for the Indian team again.” I therefore desired to convince everyone. I was acting in a very desperate manner. I began making a lot of changes to my bowling, which ultimately had an impact on my mental health and prevented me from bowling as usual. Thus, IPL was not good for me.”
“I’m no longer in need. I am familiar with how things operate. Who am I to judge when even the greatest of the best will be sidelined? There has been news that they will. I don’t have any standards. See what comes my way, let’s see. I’ll give it my all. Accepting reality is the best course of action. In the cutthroat world of today, nobody will genuinely look out for you or think well of you. Everyone competes with themselves and faces unique challenges.
The greatest thing I can do is simply show up to the matches, give it my all, take a nap, and trust that whatever occurs will happen. The rumors seriously damaged my career, but I’ve just come to terms with it,” he remarked.
