The Caribbean Premier League’s newest team, the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons, has been revealed (CPL).
They took the position of the Jamaica Tallawahs, who disbanded following the competition in 2023. The new franchise owners had a grand inauguration ceremony at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, which will also be their home field for the 2017 league season.
After ten years, professional cricket is finally returning to Antigua with this historic event. Unless the administration chooses to add further teams, it is understood that the CPL purchased the Tallawahs franchise from its previous owners and is committed to having a club located in Jamaica by 2025, making the league a seven-team event.
Businessman Kris Persaud, of Florida, controlled the Jamaica team at the time; he later acquired the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons. He acknowledged that he couldn’t run the Jamaican team and made the decision to buy a new team in order to make more money.
We’re fresh off the boat, here, and prepared, so let’s get started! The CPL will experience a distinct vibrancy and excitement from the Antigua & Barbuda Falcons. We’re prepared to take off and conquer whatever lies ahead. We want to create a culture of winning and success off the field among all the people connected to this team as well as the incredible supporters we will have at our unique home base at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in beautiful Antigua,” Persaud was cited by Cricbuzz as saying.
Persaud went on to say that they now call Antigua home and that they plan to make history there in the near future.
“We live in Antigua… Cricket has a long history in this nation, and the Antigua & Barbuda Falcons will add to that legacy by making more unforgettable memories here. The Falcons need to soar high at this point, he continued.
Notably, August 28 to October 6 is the scheduled dates for the CPL 2024. The final match will once again take place in Guyana at The National Stadium in Providence, with games being held in Antigua for the first time in ten years.
