March 7, 2024, New Delhi: The JSW and GMR-owned Delhi Capitals are presently leading the WPL 2024 points table after four victories and one defeat in their first five games. On Friday, they play their sixth game at the Arun Jaitley Stadium against the UP Warriorz, with the goal of extending their winning streak.
In the team’s previous outing, Shafali Varma, who hit a blistering 28 off 12 balls in the team’s 29-run victory over the Mumbai Indians, talked about what it was like to play the first-ever WPL game at home.
“This is where I started my journey and my U16 domestic career began.” All of my early recollections came to life as I gazed around. “It was an incredible experience for me to play here again after six years,” Shafali Varma said. “Many people showed up, even though it was a weekday. For us, it’s a huge deal. I hope things keep going this way and they never stop encouraging and supporting us.”
In their last match, the Delhi Capitals defeated UP Warriorz in Bengaluru by a decisive nine wickets.
“We have been executing our plans as a team and as individuals, and that is what helps us win matches,” the 20-year-old hitter stated, as the host team looks to complete the double over UP Warriorz. The basic idea will not change: if we carry out our plans, keep things straightforward, and maintain our confidence, we shall triumph once more.”
Regarding the match being played on International Women’s Day, Shafali Varma remarked, “I believe the last time I participated in a game on International Women’s Day was in Australia for the T20 World Cup final. The stadium was full, and I hope lots of people show up tomorrow, especially girls. We’ll try to perform well so that women are motivated by us to succeed in their own fields.”
On Friday, March 8, 2024, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, the Delhi Capitals and UP Warriorz will play their next WPL 2024 encounter.
