The second match of the 2024 Indian Premier League saw the Gujarat Titans (GT) take on the reigning Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Chepauk. GT was unable to prevent CSK from winning their second straight game of the season, even with Shubman Gill taking on the captaincy role.
The 24-year-old Shubman Gill succeeded Hardik Pandya as captain after the latter guided the Gujarat Titans to their first IPL championship in 2022 and finished second in 2023 before joining the Mumbai Indians this season.
The IPL’s Code of Conduct also caught GT in hot water when Gill, the captain, was punished for the team’s poor overrate in the match on March 26. A fine of INR 12 lakhs was imposed upon him. Their first violation of the IPL’s minimum over-rate offense code of conduct for the season occurred with this occurrence.
GT suffers their season’s first defeat.
Speaking about the game, CSK struck early and often, thanks to outstanding innings from captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (46 off 36) and opener Rachin Ravindra (46 off 20). During his aggressive cameo in the middle, Shivam Dube (51 off 23) scored 206/6.

The sixth-place team, GT, who defeated MI in their season opener, will host Sunrisers Hyderabad in their upcoming match on March 31 at home. Meanwhile, the top-seeded team, CSK, will travel to Visakhapatnam to play the Delhi Capitals on the same day.
