In response to questions about whether youthful batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal will be able to play at the highest level in Australia, seasoned Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin recently came up.
Notably, Michael Vaughan, the former captain of England, asked Ashwin if he thought Jaiswal would perform during India’s five-game Test series against Australia later in 2024. Upon seeing the question, Ashwin expressed his opinion that it’s hilarious that people think it’s funny when players struggle in unfamiliar environments and even suggested that this is what makes international cricket so great.
I truly chuckled at this particular section of the story. There are many experts, particularly in India, discussing someone who has recently gained notoriety. While speaking on the Club Prairie Fire podcast, Ashwin stated, “Hey, but hang on, let’s wait and see how he performs in Australia, in South Africa, in England.”

“That makes me laugh so hard because you wouldn’t say something like that until you wanted someone to fail. The allure of international cricket, he continued, is that you look forward to someone failing.
The mindset that propels one to success is this one: Ravichandran Ashwin
In addition, Ravichandran Ashwin discussed how Yashasvi Jaiswal would benefit from touring Australia and competing in challenging environments. I thought that Jaiswal would succeed if he approached Australia with excitement as a challenger.
Isn’t it the experience? Traveling and overcoming obstacles is the main purpose of travelling; after all, the mindset of a cricket player is to conquer all obstacles. Life is all about trying new things, and it will undoubtedly be difficult. That’s the mindset that propels one to success,” the 37-year-old said.
“Yashasvi is an innately talented ball striker. He is a person who turns everything he touches into gold. But eventually, Ashwin added, “I’m sure he’ll have the chance to fail and learn what it takes to succeed.”
