On Tuesday, April 9, at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, Chandigarh, Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Punjab Kings in Match 23, earning their second straight victory in the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024). Nitish Reddy’s half-century helped SRH, who were given the opportunity to bat first, achieve a respectable 182/9 in the allowed 20 overs.
In response, Punjab came agonizingly close to capturing the objective, with Shashank Singh persevering all the way through. They lost the match by two runs after ultimately concluding their innings at 180/6 in 20 overs. After winning, Punjab also held onto sixth place in the points table with four points from five games, while SRH remained in fifth place with six points from five games.
Now, let’s examine the game’s highlights:
1. Arshdeep Singh is a ball player.
The left-arm seamer, who took wickets at pivotal moments in the game, was his team’s best bowler. In the powerplay, Arshdeep took a crucial wicket in Travis Head and then removed Aiden Markam in the same over. When the 25-year-old returned in the 17th over to remove both set batters, he broke the brilliant partnership between Abdul Samad and Nitish Reddy. In four overs, he concluded with 4/29 figures.

2. Nitish Reddy commands attention with a sophisticated fifty
After 3.4 overs, the 20-year-old approached the crease with his side reeling at 27/2. Reddy faced the PBKS bowlers despite the risky circumstances. With four fours and five sixes in his impressive 64-run (37) innings, the right-hander achieved his first half-century in the Indian Premier League.

3. Punjab’s top order disappears with the new ball, thanks to Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
With a first-up maiden, the right-arm seamer set the tone for SRH’s defence perfectly. Later, as he holed out to point in his second over, he dismissed Prabhsimran Singh. In his third over, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was set up for a brilliant stumping dismissal, and Bhuvneshwar took another major scalp. After four overs, the seamer for SRH concluded with figures of 2/32.
