The 24th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) took place at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur and featured a tough match between the Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans. Following a number of back-and-forth exchanges during the match, the Gujarat Titans were able to end the Royals’ winning streak and deliver them their first defeat of the year.
Nevertheless, the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) fined RR captain Sanju Samson following the match. Samson was fined because his team played the Gujarat Titans at a sluggish overrate.
According to an IPL statement, Samson was fined Rs 12 lakhs because it was his team’s first offense of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct regarding minimum over-rate offenses.
RR remains atop the standings despite their opening defeat.
Both the Rajasthan Royals and the Gujarat Titans played outstandingly in their match. The Royals’ openers, batting first, fell short of expectations. Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag’s knocks, meanwhile, were what really allowed the team to put up a large total.
In 38 deliveries, Samson scored 68 runs, while Parag scored 76 runs in 48 balls. The first inning saw 196 runs scored by the hosts. For Gujarat, the first innings saw several wicket-takers with one wicket each: Umesh Yadav, Mohit Sharma, and Rashid Khan.
