The Rajasthan Royals paid INR 1.50 crore to retain Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa prior to the previous year’s auction. But before the competition, the seasoned competitor withdrew for “personal reasons.” He just disclosed the motivations behind his difficult decision.
The Australian cricket player declared that he would be open to playing in the lucrative league this season. But with the T20 World Cup in June and having played so much cricket since last year, he was exhausted and wanted to give his body and mind a break.
“The IPL wasn’t for me this year for a number of reasons. The fact that it’s World Cup year and I’m exhausted from 2023 was, I believe, the most significant. I attended every IPL match last year.
Necessarily, India hosted the World Cup for three months as well,” Adam Zampa stated on the Willow Talk podcast.
“I therefore intended to try to participate in the IPL once more this year. But when the chips were down, I felt like I couldn’t really give the Rajasthan Royals my all, and I’m definitely more excited about the World Cup than I am about anything else,” he continued.
Combined with veteran Indian spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal, Zampa took eight wickets in six games for the Royals the previous season. The Shellharbour native claimed that he would have had to compete to get into the starting XI and that he gave it some thought before missing the IPL.
“It came down to my decision being that I probably need to put my body and my mental health first. “Then you include a ton of other considerations, such as the fact that I have a small family. Being in my condition and battling for a spot on the team for nine weeks in India is not easy. It’s not like I can just tell myself, “Well, that’s okay; I have 14 games left to get ready for the World Cup.”

I am not sure if there will be two games, four games, or six games in reality. I came to the conclusion that it could be best for me to simply rest, prioritize my family, and take care of my physical needs,” Zampa remarked.
Making the decision to pull out of the IPL is difficult since you’re constantly worried about what people will think of you. What will happen if you wish to attend the Indian Premier League again? Do people tend to use that brush to paint you? However, after I made that choice, I didn’t really give it much thought because I knew it was the right one,” he continued.
Early on in the 2024 Indian Premier League, Rajasthan has been performing admirably. They defeated the Gujarat Titans on Wednesday, April 10, after winning four straight games. It was their first loss of the season. With eight points from five games, the Sanju Samson-led team is ranked highest on the points table.
