In the present Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) season, the host Mumbai Indians (MI) suffered their fourth loss. The team suffered a 20-run defeat at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
While there were a number of efforts that contributed to the match, MS Dhoni and Matheesha Pathirana’s were particularly noteworthy. As he came to bat in the last over of the opening session, the great former captain of CSK blasted three straight sixes against Pandya, helping CSK reach 206 runs.
Pathirana made an impression while defending the target while holding the ball. The game was won by his team, despite the fact that the great pacer gave up only 28 runs and claimed four vital wickets. Following the match, MI captain Hardik Pandya spoke up and discussed how important Dhoni and Pathirana’s performances were to Chennai.
“Very definitely attainable. However, Pathirana was the difference, as they bowled fairly well. Their planning was astute, and they made good use of the longer boundary. “They have a man behind the stumps telling them what’s working, and they got the hang of it,” Pandya remarked during the post-match awards ceremony.

In addition, Hardik Pandya discussed how Pathirana proved to be the game’s pivotal factor. After impressive efforts from Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma in the openers, Mumbai appeared to be winning the match. The odds were reversed in favor of CSK, though, when Pathirana dismissed Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav in his very first over.

“They won the game because the ball was somewhat gripping. We were headed for the total until Pathirana arrived. Regarding whether or not they could have used a spinner for Dube, it was all about what was best at that particular moment. This wicket proved to be tougher to hit for seamers. For the next four games, we will be traveling. We can achieve our goals if we are clever,” Pandya said.
