The Delhi Capitals (DC) lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SC) by 67 runs on Saturday, April 20, at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, marking their fifth defeat in the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024). With Travis Head topping the score with 89 runs after coming in to bat first, SRH amassed an enormous 266/7 in their stipulated 20 overs (32). With four wickets at fifty-five in four overs, Kuldeep Yadav was DC’s best bowler.
Jake Fraser McGurk top-scored with a scorching half-century (65 from 18 overs), but DC could only muster 199 in their allotted 20 overs in response. With three victories from eight games and six points after their defeat, Delhi is currently ranked seventh in the standings.

Gujarat Titans (GT) and Mumbai Indians (MI) are Delhi’s next two opponents, and they will play on April 24 and 27 at the same location. After then, they play the very competitive Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR), who are now atop the standings, in challenging matches. The final two matches will be between the Rishabh Pant-led team against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
In their final six games, Delhi must win five of them.
That means that of Delhi’s six remaining games, only two are difficult. Even though they now have six points, they will still need to win five games in order to automatically qualify for the postseason. In the event that they succeed, DC will have 16 points at the end of the league stage. It will be the net run rate, which is currently at -0.477, that will determine their fate if they lose two games and end up with 14 points.
Once again, the team captained by Rishabh Pant is facing overwhelming odds and will be looking to generate momentum in their next games. Since they don’t have many games left, DC must get back together soon and crush the other underperforming teams in the tournament in the next few games to solidify their playoff bid.
