Sandeep Sharma delivered a superb bowling performance at the fortress, taking five wickets. His bowling performance in match 38 of the ongoing IPL 2024 (Indian Premier League), held at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, decimated the Mumbai Indians‘ (MI) batting lineup on Monday, April 22.
The 30-year-old pacer’s devastating spell (5/18) was instrumental in reducing Mumbai to 179/9. As a result, the hosts, Rajasthan Royals (RR), won comfortably by nine wickets. MI chose to bat first after winning the toss.
However, they had a dismal start, losing three wickets for 20 runs in the opening four overs. Sandeep Sharma’s strategic usage of variations and cuts proved to be the key to his success on a surface that aided bowlers. However, this did not come easily for the brilliant bowler, since he was previously unfit and unable to play for the Rajasthan Royals in the present IPL 2024

“I only got fitted the day before yesterday. It’s the first game after fitness, and I’m feeling terrific. I expected to continue using bowling variations and cutters because the pitch was sluggish and low. “If you’re bowling at the end, you’ve got to have a big heart,” Sandeep stated during the post-match presentation.
I am liking each game. Sandeep Sharma
In the IPL 2024 clash between the Rajasthan Royals and the Mumbai Indians, Sandeep Sharma struck early, eliminating the dangerous Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav cheaply. Despite a brief partnership of Tilak Varma (65) and Mohammad Nabi (23), Mumbai’s innings struggled to establish traction. Sharma also dismissed Tilak Varma, Tim David, and Gerald Coetzee. His effort earned him the Player of the Match honor. Sharma, who was playing his third game of the season, also talked about how much he cherished the opportunities that came his way.
“I have noticed in the IPL that bowlers are under pressure. You need to have a huge heart and keep executing ideas. As you’re aware, I went unsold two years ago. I came in as a replacement. So I’m enjoying each game,” Sharma continued.
Yashasvi Jaiswal’s magnificent century (104 off 60 balls) and skipper Sanju’s composed knock (38 off 28) gave the Sanju Samson-led team inspiration as they chased a goal of 180. The pair’s combination secured a comprehensive victory with nine wickets and eight balls to spare. RR currently leads the points table with 14 points, while MI is eighth with six. The Rajasthan Royals will now travel to Lucknow to play the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their next IPL 2024 match on April 27.
