On Tuesday, April 30, the renowned hitter Rohit Sharma turned 37. The cricket community extended its best wishes to Sharma.
India is a cricketing powerhouse, and Rohit has one of their best batting skills. The right-handed batsman made his debut for his country in an ODI against Ireland in June 2007, but his full potential wasn’t seen until he was named India’s full-time opener during the 2013 ICC (International Cricket Council) Champions Trophy.
Rohit has scored 10,709 runs at a 49.12 average and 91.97 strike rate in 262 ODIs played. In the international 50-over format, he has 37 centuries and 55 half-centuries to his belt. The only player in ODI cricket history with three double hundreds is Rohit. In ODIs, Mumbai’s batsman holds the record for the highest individual score as well. He accomplished this record in 2014 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, where he hit an incredible 264 off 173 balls against Sri Lanka.
2013 saw Rohit have an incredible beginning to his Test career, going on to score hundreds in his opening two innings against the West Indies. Over the following several years, though, Rohit was guilty of losing wickets despite having strong starts. But when he went to the top of the inning in 2019, everything changed. With the stats he has already amassed in red-ball cricket, the graceful hitter has emerged as the embodiment of consistency.
Rohit has played in 59 Test matches, scoring 17 fifties and 12 tons while amassing 4,138 runs at an average of 45.47. In a 2019 match at Ranchi against South Africa, he hit his highest score of 212 off 255 balls. In Test cricket, this is his only score above 200.
Compared to the Indian Premier League (IPL), Rohit’s batting record in Twenty20 international cricket is superior. Rohit played in 151 matches and scored 3,974 runs at an average of 31.29 and a strike rate of 139.98 after making his T20I debut against England during India’s victorious 2007 T20 World Cup campaign. So far in his T20I career, he has scored five hundred and 29 fifties. He is the player with the most sixes—190—among all players in the game’s shortest format.
