Ravi Shastri identifies two Indian powerhouses to keep an eye on at the T20 World Cup as “the two gentlemen you’ve got to watch out for.”

Two left-handed players are players to watch in this event, according to head coach and former Indian all-rounder Ravi Shastri. With less than a month to go before the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup begins, some Indian players are already in the public eye.

Shastri emphasized the potential of Shivam Dube and the comeback of Yashasvi Jaiswal in an interview with the ICC. Shastri believes that both players might be crucial to India’s hopes of winning the T20 World Cup again.

With his reckless attitude at the top of the order, 22-year-old explosive hitter Jaiswal has already left his imprint. Jaiswal boasts impressive strike rates in T20 internationals—161.93 to be exact—with four hundred and a century. Jaiswal, who is now playing in the IPL 2024 with the Rajasthan Royals, is a player to watch out for because of his versatility in the face of bowling attacks.

“The two guys, who are both left-handers and participating in their maiden World Cup, are the ones to watch out for. Yashasvi Jaiswal is one of them. Shastri told the ICC, “We know a lot about him; he did incredibly well against England; he was explosive at the top of the order, a left-hander, young, fearless, and willing to play shots.”

Shastri, however, stressed Dube’s destructive powers, especially when it comes to spin bowling. The 30-year-old all-rounder, who is currently playing for the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League, has a talent for hitting the boundary ropes with ease. With his strong hitting, Shastri even made the amusing comment that Dube could hit balls into the small island from Long Island.

“Please keep an eye out for this guy, though, as he is a match-winner, explosive, and dangerous batsman in the middle order. In spin bowling, he can kill you, and he smacks sixes for joy. That kind of player, he’ll park a couple balls into the small island from Long Island. He smashes it long and hard, and as I mentioned, he could kill you against spin,” he continued.

Although Dube’s technique against fast bowlers has come under scrutiny, Shastri voiced faith in his ability to deal with them. Shastri claims that Dube has allayed worries and is prepared to influence India’s midterm prospects.
