The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that Gary Kirsten, a former South African cricketer, will assume the role of head coach for Pakistan’s white-ball side. Kirsten has begun formulating plans for the team, with a particular focus on Babar Azam.
Gary Kirsten believes that Babar bears an excessive burden. The recently appointed coach desires for the exceptional batter to experience a sense of relief and distribute the responsibility of batting among the other teammates.
Kirsten believes that by doing this, Babar may reach his full batting ability. Pakistan will also prosper since they won’t be dependent on any one player to win them games.
“It is unfair to any player to be dependent on Babar.” He shouldn’t feel under pressure to constantly contribute to the team. I’ve communicated with Babar. He has performed exceptionally well and bears a large portion of the team’s responsibility. As a coaching staff, we’ll work to help him recognise that he’s just one player among many, and that he can set himself free to play to his natural ability,” Gary Kirsten stated to Talksport.

The star cricket player has been one of Pakistan’s two hitters to score more than 1,000 T20I runs since the start of 2022, which is a noteworthy fact to note. He also looked outstanding in Pakistan’s most recent T20I series against Ireland. Babar secured the series and helped his team win the game with a score of 75 from just 42 balls. Kirsten thought the side would see more of it from the ace batter after seeing his knock.

“Hopefully, he gives us a lot more knocks like the one he gave us during the Ireland innings.” I think if we can unlock that freedom, and recognise that there’s a big bunch of individuals that can make match-winning contribution, especially in T20 cricket, that’ll take a lot of weight off him,” Kirsten said.
