Following Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) elimination from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Virat Kohli took a mini-break and is expected to miss India’s lone warm-up match before the T20 World Cup 2024. On June 1, India plays Bangladesh in a warm-up match in New York.
The lucky hitter let the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) know that he would be okay with joining the team beyond the deadline. With an average of 61.75, Kohli hammered 741 runs from 15 matches during his spectacular IPL 2024 campaign. He got RCB into the playoffs, but they were eliminated in the Eliminator by Rajasthan Royals (RR). The BCCI official has stated that the Delhi hitter is scheduled to travel to New York early on May 30.
“The BCCI has postponed Kohli’s visa appointment since he had notified us well in advance that he would be joining the squad late. It is anticipated that he would depart for New York early on May 30. His request has been granted by the BCCI, an official informed The Indian Express.
In addition to Virat Kohli, all-rounder Hardik Pandya and wicketkeeper-battler Sanju Samson will also be late additions to the squad.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been notified by Samson, who guided RR to the second qualifying round, that he is postponing his travel due to “personal work in Dubai.” Pandya and Samson were permitted to join later by the BCCI.
On Saturday, the first group of Indian athletes left for the United States. A second wave is scheduled to depart on Monday. Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, Shivam Dube, Mohammed Siraj, Axar Patel, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Kuldeep Yadav, Shubman Gill, and the support team departed from Mumbai on Saturday evening.
