Bairstow has the ability and experience to perform at No. 4, according to Buttler

Jos Buttler has expressed confidence in Jonny Bairstow‘s ability to perform well at the number four position in the T20 World Cup 2024. Buttler highlighted Bairstow’s expertise in batting during the powerplay and his skill in aggressively facing spin bowlers during the middle overs.

“In my opinion, each player on the team must analyse the game situation and adapt their play accordingly,” Buttler stated during a press conference on Saturday. “In my opinion, Jonny possesses the necessary expertise and skills to fulfil the role of playing at No. 4 for our team.”

“He has frequently demonstrated this skill in the T20 team before, and he possesses a wide range of abilities in his gameplay.” He is accustomed to batting during the powerplay if the need arises at the fourth position. Additionally, he possesses both experience and strength, and is proficient in playing spin throughout the middle period of the game.

Bairstow, who was anticipated to assume the opening position for England in the upcoming 2022 T20 World Cup but was unable to participate owing to an unexpected injury incurred during a game of golf, referred to the shift to the No. 4 position as “a promotion”.

Bairstow has predominantly been engaged in playing cricket in India during the past year. The sequence commenced with the 2023 ODI World Cup, succeeded by the five-match Test series, and thereafter the IPL. However, Buttler stated that Bairstow was far from being tired or without enthusiasm.

“I believe he is enthusiastic.” Buttler expressed his belief that he thinks the person is in a positive state of mind. “He has been absent for an extended duration, but he possesses a strong sense of pride and has actively participated in cricket matches representing England during this period, as it aligns with his desired position.”

“He appears to be in a positive state of mind.” His family will also accompany him on this trip, which is pleasant. Considering the injuries he sustained right before the previous T20 World Cup, I am certain that he is eagerly anticipating this upcoming tournament.

Jos Buttler: ‘I am not attempting to impose excessive pressure on Archer’

Jofra Archer recently returned to international cricket after a year-long absence due to injury. However, Buttler reveals that the team management is cautious about not overwhelming him with excessive expectations.

“Having the opportunity to play cricket once more and wearing an England shirt again, I am aware of the immense effort he has put in to make a comeback. It has been a considerable period of time for him,” stated Buttler. “As previously mentioned, we are not attempting to place excessive anticipation on him.”

“We are aware of his potential to become a superstar, however, it has been a considerable duration since he last participated in international cricket. Consequently, it is quite effortless to become excessively enthusiastic and anticipate significant achievements from him.” However, I believe it would be prudent to allow him some additional time. He is experiencing joy and displaying a smile, thoroughly enjoying his return to the changing room just as much as he does when he is on the pitch. He is currently in a highly favourable state.

When questioned about the possibility of England including both Archer and Mark Wood in the same team, Buttler affirmed that it is indeed a viable option.
