After the series, when asked if he had any “regrets” at not seeing Sarfaraz be a part of the team for such a long length of time, the captain of Pakistan’s cricket team, Babar Azam, offered a straightforward response to the question.
The opportunity that was presented to Sarfaraz Ahmed to play for the Pakistan cricket team in the Test series against New Zealand was one that he seized with both hands and turned into a memorable comeback for Pakistan. In what was his maiden Test series after four years, Sarfaraz emerged as Pakistan’s leading run-scorer at the batting position.
He also struck a historic century in the Karachi match, which saved Pakistan’s match. After the series, when asked if he had any “regrets” at not seeing Sarfaraz be a part of the team for such a long length of time, the captain of Pakistan’s cricket team, Babar Azam, offered a straightforward response to the question.
Because of the leadership shifts that took place within the Pakistan Cricket Board, Sarfaraz was able to make his way back onto the Pakistan national cricket squad (PCB).
Following Shahid Afridi’s appointment as the head selector, Najam Sethi was appointed to the position of board chairman.
It was Afridi who decided to bring back Sarfaraz to the team, and it’s safe to say that the veteran wicket-keeper batter performed admirably once he was given the opportunity.
During the press conference that took place after the conclusion of the second Test, a journalist posed the following question to Babar Azam: “Usne Pakistan ki izzat bachaayi. Aap nhi samajte ki usko England ke series par bhi chance milna chahiye tha? Aapko pachtawa hai ki wo char saal ke liye team par nahi tha? ( He rescued Pakistan’s pride.
Do you lament the fact that he wasn’t a member of the team for those four years and do you believe that he should have been given an opportunity to play in the series against England?”
In his response to the reporter, Babar Azam was unwavering and did not even so much as budge an inch.
“Nahi, mujhe koi pachtawa nahi (No. I do not harbour any regrets at this time) “, said Babar Azam in response.
Sarfaraz scored a total of 335 runs against New Zealand in the two matches that were played, with an average score of 83.75 runs per game. In addition to this accolade, Sarfaraz was awarded the Player of the Match award for the second test as well as the Player of the Series award.
