Thursday, June 13, saw the 26th match of the competition between the West Indies and New Zealand, who are still playing for the T20 World Cup 2024, take place in Tarouba, Trinidad’s Brian Lara Stadium. After losing the toss, the West Indies batted first to start the game.
The top order disintegrated and the side got off to a terrible start. Johnson Charles and Brandon King scored 0 and 9 runs, respectively. Roston Chase and Rovman Powell scored one run each and zero runs, respectively, before Nicholas Pooran added 17 more to the score.
Sherfane Rutherford’s knock stabilised the Windies’ innings when it appeared to be in peril. Rutherford, who scored 68* runs in 39 deliveries, contributed to the West Indies’ first-inning total of 149 runs.
Trent Boult took the most wickets for his side in New Zealand, with three in total. In addition, Tim Southee and Lockie Ferguson both claimed two wickets, while Mitchell Santner and James Neesham each scored one run.

New Zealand also had a poor start as they attempted to chase down a target of 150 runs. Devon Conway and Finn Allen, who opened the scoring, each scored five and twenty-six runs. Kane Williamson managed to score just one run before Rachin Ravindra was removed after just ten runs.
Following the collapse of the top order, Glenn Phillips and Daryl Mitchell scored 40 and 12 runs, respectively, while James Neesham added 10 runs to the score. New Zealand came up barely short due to the West Indies’ capacity for rapid breakthroughs.

With four wickets in his total, Alzarri Joseph was his team’s top wicket-taker. New Zealand only managed to score 136 runs in the second innings, losing the match by 13 runs. Gudakesh Motie grabbed three wickets, while Akeal Hosein and Andre Russell claimed one wicket each.
