India was ecstatic to win the T20 World Cup 2024, but South Africa was devastated. By going undefeated the whole competition, the Aiden Markram-led Proteas advanced to the championship match. Their lone defeat came in the championship matchup with India.
South Africa, needing 30 runs in as many deliveries to win the match and the tournament, seemed to be in the driver’s seat as they chased 177. However, despite IND outstanding ball-handling, the team faltered when put under duress. It would be a campaign of which the Proteas could be very proud, in spite of their sadness.
Following the match, a few Indian supporters gathered nearby were observed encouraging South Africa, getting them fired up following the defeat, as the team boarded the bus. The video of the happy moment has been going viral on social media.

India’s outstanding bowling helped South Africa win the title.
Following the early wickets of Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant, IND found themselves in a bit of trouble in the first innings. Nevertheless, the Men in Blue scored 176 in the opening innings thanks to a 76-run effort from Virat Kohli. Reeza Hendricks and Aiden Markram were both dismissed early in the second innings, which gave India a great start. But Tristran Stubbs and Quinton de Kock’s combination put them on the defensive.

IND was on the verge of losing the match despite Heinrich Klaasen’s explosive half century, but the last three overs of play turned the tide. Marco Jansen was dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya removed Klaasen from the game. With only a few boundaries given up in the last overs, India won the match by seven runs and won their second T20 World Cup.
