Team India's INR 125 crore prize money distribution revealed
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) declared INR 125 crore in prize money following India’s 2024 T20 World Cup victory. At the June 4 gala celebration at Wankhede Stadium, head coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma received the prize money.

All 15 members of the squad are expected to receive INR 5 crore apiece. While the other coaches will each receive INR 2.5, head coach Dravid will also receive the same amount. Ajit Agarkar, a former cricket player, is leading the selection committee, which will receive INR 1 crore each, while the backroom personnel, which includes the video production team, will receive INR 2 lakh apiece. Additionally, the BCCI agreed to give reserve players including Avesh Khan, Khaleel Ahmed, Shubman Gill, and Rinku Singh INR 1 crore apiece.

State governments have also disclosed reward money for their individual players, in addition to the BCCI. The Maharashtra government gave INR 11 crore to Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, Rohit, and Yashasvi Jaiswal; however, the government has not disclosed the breakdown of the award.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) gave team India a $2.45 million prize, or almost INR 20.37 crore, in the meantime. Due to the BCCI’s financial stability, all of the players received rewards that were nearly six times higher than they otherwise would have. Much less than what players receive now, the organising body of the ODI World Cup in 1983 announced a reward of INR 25,000 per player.

Indian cricket’s financial landscape was altered by the IPL, according to a source close to the BCCI who spoke with the Economic Times. He said that all of the players received a very clear message from the BCCI: if they put international cricket first, they will be paid enormous sums of money.

“A team winning the T20 World Cup will receive Rs 125 crore, which is a simple message to the players — win trophies for India and you’ll be cash-rich,” he said. This is in the era of the Indian Premier League, where players are compensated generously by their franchises.

In the meantime, Rohit will continue to serve as captain for the Champions Trophy and the forthcoming World Test Championship final, according to BCCI secretary Jay Shah.
