In the first ODI between Sri Lanka and India, Dunith Wellalage was named player of the match. The 21-year-old played a crucial knock of 67* runs off 65 deliveries as the hosts reached 230 runs in the first innings when Sri Lanka was in a hole. At one point, they looked unlikely to reach 200 runs after being reduced to 142/6, but Wellalage took charge of the situation and performed admirably under duress to assist his team score a respectable total.
During the chase, Dunith Wellalage secured two significant wickets against Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill.
