Twitter Reactions: Hasan Mahmud knocks out Pakistan with five wickets, rain stops Bangladesh's clean sweep in second Test on 4 day

Hasan Mahmud achieved a first for Bangladeshi pacers in a Test match in Pakistan with his five-for. Furthermore, it was the first time for the Bangla Tigers in the red-ball format that fast bowlers had taken all ten of the opposition’s wickets in a single innings.

With a narrow advantage of just 21 runs going into Day 4, Pakistan had their work cut out for them. As the hosts looked to maintain the momentum, Saim Ayub and Shan Masood struck four boundaries between them in the first four overs of the day, setting a good early pace for the day.

After a few quiet overs, Najmul Hossain Shanto, who was positioned in the wide mid-off region, made a brilliant grab that claimed Ayub, giving up the first wicket. Masood (28 off 34 balls) was under strain and ultimately played a poor shot to give up his wicket just four overs later.

In the nineteenth over, Mohammad Rizwan got an edge, which the fielder dropped at first slip, causing a tense moment. As the ball, however, moved towards the ropes, Pakistan was able to extend their lead. The most crucial incident for Bangladesh, however, was what transpired prior to the previously listed events: Babar Azam’s wicket.

Nahid Rana skidded away to the boundary rope in a fit of fervour, and Babar had another poor performance as he edged one to the first slip. A 55-run partnership between Salman Agha and Rizwan brought some calm to the chaos, but Hasan Mahmud’s two wickets negated all of the hard work that had been done up to that point. Just seconds later, Nahid Rana scored in a manner reminiscent of Mahmud’s.

It was all up to Salman Agha, who had taken the bulk of the strike in the first innings, to take it upon himself with just one wicket left. Agha hit four fours and a maximum when he inside-edged a delivery that went to the slips to give.

Hasan Mahmud his first five-wicket haul in Test cricket, but he was unable to add any more runs to the otherwise dismal Pakistani batting performance or reach his ninth fifty-run score.

One would have anticipated a cautious approach from the visitors given the cloudy and overcast weather and more than a day remaining to pursue the 185-run objective. But Zakir Hasan’s intentions were very evident in the six overs that remained before Tea was taken, so this was anything but the template indicated above.

The third session saw play stopped by poor light, and then called off owing to a consistent sequence of precipitation, leaving only one over possible. Bangladesh was clearly aiming for the kill, and as such, they would naturally be the more irate of the two teams.

Rain is predicted for the balance of today and tomorrow, and Bangladesh is hoping desperately for at least a couple of sessions to avoid a historic clean sweep.

Here’s how the fans reacted to 4 day of the game:

Qudrat ka nizam working?? 😭😭

But literally Bangladesh deserves to win, how they manage to come back from 26-6 to 262. They outclass Pakistan in every department. High time for Pakistan to learn from mistakes.

Ban need 142 runs to win on day 5 of test match.

#Pakistan team was all out after scoring 172runs. #Bangladesh has been given a target of 185 to complete a series clean sweep . #HasanMahmud took a 5 wicket haul.#AghaSalman played brilliant 47* inning. #PAKvBAN pic.twitter.com/zmxUneOm4J

The ground in Rawalpindi is still not fully covered, this could prevent Bangladesh from a famous Test series win tomorrow 🇧🇩😭😭

And if there’s no more play tomorrow, Pakistan will still lose the series 1-0. This is really tense now 🇵🇰💔#PAKvBAN #tapmad #HojaoADFree pic.twitter.com/lQhsumZJWr

Pathetic performance by Pakistan. Losing wickets like a torrential downpour at home. Another test match, another loss looming. Meanwhile Bangladesh has been outstanding.#PAKvsBAN
