However, R Sridhar, a former fielding coach, claimed that Pant was a difficult player to work with. After making waves in the Indian Premier League, wicketkeeper-battler Rishabh Pant was named to the Indian team for the 2017 T20I series against England. The southpaw scored several noteworthy runs, particularly in red-ball cricket; his most vividly remembered and iconic innings came during the Gabba Test in 2021.
From 2014 till 2021, Sridhar served as the fielding coach. It was during his tenure when Pant made his debut for India. Regarding his strategies with athletes like as Pant, Sridhar joked that it is possible to adopt a “less is more” strategy as opposed to a “more is less” strategy.
“An additional coaching theory exists. Until they take what you provide, give them what they want. I began modifying my coaching approach. Less is more when it comes to an athlete like Rishabh, but usually more is less. Less is usually more at that level, at a really top level, particularly in terms of the technical aspect of things.
They are aware; there are champions and geniuses,” R Sridhar remarked on “Anubhav Talks.”
“I had to change my direction halfway through. I replied no, ‘less’ is the way to go with this child. After I rendered myself unnecessary, the ploy worked and we established a connection. With such a brilliant, vivacious, and enthusiastic athlete, the next eighteen months were a lot of fun. That he is back and playing [after the 2022 vehicle accident] makes me very happy. He is wiser; it’s a better version,” he continued.
Pant returned to action for the Delhi Capitals during the 2024 Indian Premier League following a near-fatal vehicle accident in 2022.

He was immediately called up to the Indian T20 World Cup 2024 squad, and during the league rounds, he made some significant contributions against Pakistan and Afghanistan. It will be his first professional red-ball debut, and he will be featured in the forthcoming Duleep Trophy.
