Indian supporters feel themselves fortunate to have two outstanding fast bowlers in their ranks, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. While Bumrah is well-known for his consistency across forms, Siraj is a workaholic who never stops attacking opposing batsmen.
Bumrah has 12 wickets from two Tests in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Meanwhile, Siraj is the leading wicket-taker, with 13 wickets in three Tests.
Former India opener Aakash Chopra stated that Siraj is an essential bowler in the Indian team, but his contributions often go unappreciated because he relies on other fielders to get his dismissals, as opposed to Bumrah, who bowls frequently.
Aakash Chopra stated that those who played with stalwarts such as Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli were frequently forgotten despite their outstanding performances.
“Not all bowlers are as skilled as Bumrah, and when you are alongside Bumrah, you are often overlooked despite your ability. When you’re surrounded by all-time greats, you’ll appear inferior. Then people will dismiss you. “It would have appeared like that when people were playing with Sachin paaji and Virat,” Chopra stated on his YouTube channel.
“That is not to say the guy isn’t good. He is skilled. Sometimes a bowler like Siraj relies on others. Bumrah gets a lot of dismissals bowled. Others have caught Siraj’s best wicket-taking method. If he doesn’t receive that help, like when Jamie Smith’s catch is dropped, the poor guy keeps bowling but doesn’t get as many wickets,” he continued.
Ahead of India’s tour of England, head coach Gautam Gambhir mentioned that Bumrah will only play three out of the five Tests. He has already featured in two out of the three Test matches. However, with India trailing 1-2, it will be interesting to see whether the tourists change their plans regarding their talismanic pacer. Meanwhile, Siraj is also due for a break as he has been playing consistently for the Men in Blue this year.
