In the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25, Australia recovered well and defeated Rohit Sharma-led India by a commanding 10-wicket margin in the second Test at the Adelaide Oval. Rohit was placed on an undesirable list alongside Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni after losing four straight Test matches.
In response to the Mumbai batter’s defensive captaincy in Australia, Aakash Chopra took a hard line. The former cricket player for India believed that Rohit’s defensive leadership caused the game to veer away from the Asian powerhouses. Chopra claimed that during the past four Test matches, Rohit’s leadership abilities have continuously fallen short of expectations.
India’s plans were notably mentioned by Aakash Chopra on the second day of the pink-ball event.
When Rohit removed Jasprit Bumrah from the attack in the morning session, he had only given him four overs. Because of this, Australia was able to play with aggression and take a commanding 157-run lead in the first innings.
“Jasprit Bumrah had already taken a wicket during his four-over stretch. Therefore, why did he only bowl four overs and then not bowl again? The entire session, he didn’t bowl. That you missed a trick in captaincy is therefore entirely accurate. Let’s call a spade a spade when it comes to Rohit’s leadership. Defensive captaincy was observed. “He let the game sway,” Chopra stated in a video posted on his own YouTube page.
Concerning Rohit’s poor performance as India’s Test captain, Chopra voiced his worries. New Zealand recently outplayed the Men in Blue, making him the first Indian captain to lose a Test series at home by a score of 0–3.
“He didn’t play as captain in Perth. So he doesn’t count that victory. Three straight home losses are the most worrisome thing, which may not be the case with anyone else, if we exclude the previous century, which includes Dhoni, Kohli, and Rohit. “It has been a little lacklustre as captain,” Chopra continued.
On Saturday, December 14, the third Test match between Australia and India will get underway at Brisbane’s famous Gabba.
