Varun Aaron, a former Indian cricketer, has identified the probable clash between Jofra Archer and the Indian batting lineup as one of the important contests to watch in the third Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. He stated that the England pacer can challenge both Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul, as well as Archer’s good record against Shubman Gill.
The third Test of the five-match series between India and England will take place at Lord’s on Thursday, July 10. Archer, who did not participate in the first two Tests, has been named to England’s playing XI for the Lord’s Test.
“I’ll be watching Archer vs India because he can straighten the ball from off-stump to a left-hander. Jaiswal has been vital for India, particularly at the outset,”
Aaron stated on the Star Sports show ‘Game Plan’.
“He can also reveal any problems with KL Rahul and the ball coming back in, as we saw with Woakes, who attacked the stumps a lot. Then, if we bring Gill in early, he has tremendous numbers against Gill,” he explained.
A former Indian pacer also believes that the struggle of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Akash Deep versus England’s top order will be another intriguing contest in the forthcoming Test.
“Bumrah, Siraj and Akash Deep vs the top order of the England batting unit, because Siraj and Akash Deep have gotten 17 wickets between them in the second Test, a lot of wickets with the new ball, and, at the end of the day, if you get wickets with the new ball and get your team off to a good start at Lord’s, you are mostly commanding the whole Test,” was his conclusion.
He emphasised Gill’s troubles against Archer in particular, stating that Gill has only scored 18 runs at an average of 9.00 against the English speedster in Tests. Archer dismissed the Indian batsman once in the first innings of the first Test in Chennai in February 2021, and again in the third Test in Ahmedabad during the same series.
