AB de Villiers’ direct assessment of India’s World Cup victory: “MS Dhoni did not win the World Cup, India won the World Cup.”

In a recent comment made in advance of the 2023 World Cup, AB de Villiers emphasizes that MS Dhoni did not win the World Cup alone; rather, India did, using Ben Stokes and England as examples.

AB de Villiers' direct assessment of India's World Cup victory: "MS Dhoni did not win the World Cup, India won the World Cup."

AB de Villiers, a former South African cricketing legend, has made a powerful statement that emphasizes the importance of team relationships in winning coveted championships like the Cricket World Cup in a sport where individual talent frequently takes center stage. When it comes to winning the World Cup, AB de Villiers, known for his remarkable batting abilities, emphasized the crucial role of a strong team unit over the simple existence of a fantastic captain or gifted individual talents.

The Proteas legend’s perspective is a sobering lesson for cricket fans everywhere to stop exalting individual accomplishments and start appreciating the teamwork that propels a team to victory on the biggest platform. Mr. 360 made no room for question in his frank statement on his YouTube site, adding,

“Cricket is a team sport; no single player ever wins the World Cup. On social media, I encounter that far too frequently. Keep in mind that India, not MS Dhoni, won the World Cup. Keep it in mind. In 2019, Team England, not Ben Stokes, lifted the trophy at Lord’s.

Mohammed Siraj’s recent performance at the Asia Cup had AB de Villiers gushing with praise.

The 39-year-old also extolled the virtues of Mohammed Siraj, a budding fast-bowling star who plays for Royal Challengers Bangalore. In the Asia Cup 2023 final, Siraj’s outstanding performance was crucial in leading his team to victory. ‘Miyan’ created a stunning performance with his hypnotic quick bowling, recording figures of 6/21 in his seven overs. De Villiers gushed about the 29-year-old’s attitude and perseverance, saying,

“He simply keeps coming back, always. I’ve already noted that he is constantly in your face. The bowlers who never gave up are those who are most revered. They would always be in your face and fight for every single ball. Siraj acts in this manner.
