Legendary South African captain AB de Villiers has spoken out about the altercation between former Proteas captain and coach Graeme Smith and Ray Jennings while they were on the field. The 39-year-old claimed that the two cricket players hardly ever interacted, which at the time led to an impressive situation in the South African locker room.
AB De Villiers revealed the information about Jennings and Smith when discussing Andy Flower’s selection as the new head coach of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
In the Indian Premier League, Flower will team up with Faf du Plessis, the current captain of the RCB and a former captain of South Africa. For St. Lucia Kings in the Caribbean Premier League, the pair had previously collaborated.
“I actually noticed Andy Flower blogging about his want to collaborate with Faf and his excitement to do so. It’s always beneficial. When the captain and the coach get along well, the squad benefits. It’s crucial for the players to feel trusted, to know that the captain and coach are sailing in the same direction. De Villiers made this statement on his YouTube channel.
De Villiers continued by predicting that any conversations between Smith and Jennings will most likely result in physical altercation. The illustrious wicketkeeper-batter continued, “I’ve interacted more with Smith, and I also like Jennings’ coaching style.”
I’ve participated in teams before… Ray Jennings, when Graeme Smith was captain, the two of them genuinely didn’t communicate. When they did, there was conflict. It was quite fascinating. I won’t say that the team was significantly impacted. With Graeme, we kind of talked more.
“Graeme was a member of the team and the guys, even if I had greatly appreciated Ray’s coaching style. The chemistry between the two of them, though, was really intriguing at the time, the 39-year-old continued.
