Abhishek Bachchan, a well-known actor, sports fan, and businessman, traveled to Dublin to promote his investment in the European T20 Premier League (ETPL),
A brand-new franchise cricket league that is poised to transform cricket in Europe.
The ETPL is a special collaboration between Ireland, Scotland, and the Netherlands that was approved by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in January 2025. It consists of six franchise teams, two in each of the three countries. There will be exciting T20 cricket action this summer when the debut season is held in Dublin and Rotterdam.
With the combined support of Cricket Ireland, Cricket Scotland, and Cricket Netherlands, the ETPL exhibits an unparalleled degree of cooperation and dedication to expanding the game throughout the region, in contrast to other leagues that are usually backed by a single national board. With the ability to interact with the whole European market (except from England), the ETPL provides unmatched market depth. Every new nation the league establishes ties with offers substantial prospects for expansion.
Dublin and Belfast will be represented by the Irish franchise teams, giving the league a competitive advantage. To ensure a strong emphasis on developing local and regional talent, each squad will include eight home players in addition to a development player representing a European nation.
By giving up-and-coming players a chance to compete on a worldwide scale, the ETPL seeks to promote the continued growth of cricket in Ireland, Scotland, and the Netherlands. The league will have franchise teams and a draft system, just like other successful leagues of a similar nature, but it will be the first of its kind to feature three countries. On July 15, 2025, the European T20 Premier League will begin play.
Abhishek Bachchan, co-founder of the ETPL, said:
“I am incredibly excited to be a part of the European T20 Premier League. This league represents a fantastic opportunity to grow the game of cricket in Europe, fostering local talent and bringing world-class entertainment to fans. I believe the ETPL will not only showcase the best of European cricket but also create a vibrant cultural experience for families and communities.”
