Cricket players Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid of England have backed the BCCI’s (Board of Control for Cricket in India) decision to ban Harry Brook after his last-minute withdrawal ahead of the 2025 Indian Premier League. Brook left the competition to concentrate on his national responsibilities after being selected by the Delhi Capitals for INR 6.25 crore in the November super auction.
According to the BCCI’s new policy, which was put in place to stop foreign players from withdrawing at the last minute after being purchased at auction, the 26-year-old has been banned.
Moeen and Rahid have supported the approach, despite the fact that some have called it harsh, citing the impact that such last-minute departures have on the teams’ balance.
“It’s not severe. I kind of agree with it because many people do that, many people have done it before, and many people return and end up receiving a better cash deal, or whatever it is. Additionally, he kind of messes up a lot of things at the same time,” Moeen stated on the podcast “Beard Before Cricket.”
Obviously, his team has suffered as a result of his withdrawal. Harry Brook’s departure throws any team into disarray, and they must now rearrange everything and other things. Ignore him for a moment, but if you do withdraw, you will be banned unless you have a family emergency or suffered an accident. Things are different if there is an injury or something. However, if you simply pull out, I believe it’s I somewhat concur with the teams. You really make a lot of mistakes. He is an excellent player. “It’s likely that they selected the team around him, and then you’re pulling out,” the English all-rounder continued.
This is what you know will occur if you take out: Adil Rashid
Along with Moeen, Rashid said that the regulation could not be considered as strict as it was when all players were informed of the rules and the repercussions of breaking them.
This occurred after they had previously implemented that rule. So, this is the rule while you’re entering. You know that this will occur if you pull out when you enter your name. You are aware of the repercussions of it. I don’t think it’s harsh, but if you withdraw and you have an injury or whatever, like you mentioned, then I believe that’s where the regulations might shift or modify in that manner,” Rashid stated.
“Not only Harry Brook, but… But I don’t know, I think this has been going on for a while. Mo (Moeen Ali) has played in the IPL for a lot longer, but during the last five or ten years, many players have been picked in general and have left. So that’s why they’re attempting to halt it in that manner,” Rashid said.
