‘He will do wonders for us’ – Adil Rashid back Harry Brook as England’s new captain

Harry Brook, England’s recently named white-ball captain, has the support of Adil Rashid to succeed in the position. Jos Buttler resigned after England’s dismal Champions Trophy campaign earlier this year, and the latter took his position.

In five ODIs, Brook has served as England’s interim captain. Last year, the Three Lions hosted Australia for a five-game series. Even though they lost 2-3, Brook’s batting prowess helped him finish as the team’s top scorer with 312 runs from five games at an average of 78 and a strike rate of 127.86.

Even while the seasoned Adil Rashid acknowledged that becoming a great captain takes time, he thinks Brook is up to the task.

“He is undoubtedly prepared, but it takes time for someone to assume the captaincy. He has time, and his work thus far has been satisfactory. He will be an excellent leader, and I have no doubt that he will further improve England cricket,” Rashid said.

According to Rashid, Brook’s skills are highly regarded by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and other English cricket players. The leg-spinner believes Brook can lead England to victory in ICC competitions by balancing the two white-ball formats.

“They handed it to him because they think he could be the one, even though it’s a tremendous assignment and a big issue. All of us think he is capable of leading and captaining the ODIs and T20s. It will be difficult to strike a balance, but I have no doubt that he has the skills, attitude, ambition, and motivation to succeed and guide England to victories and World Cups,” Rashid said.

Rashid is excitedly awaiting the chance to play for Brook and collaborate with head coach Brendon McCullum to help England win. The 37-year-old is focused on the 2026 T20 World Cup, which Sri Lanka and India will co-host.

“A new era has begun, complete with a new skipper and fresh faces. Baz McCullum, the new England white-ball head coach, will be coaching at home for the first time. I’m looking forward to the task, which is fantastic. The 2026 World Cup is the next task we have. We’re working towards it and making sure we’re prepared when we reach that point,” Rashid said.

In May and June, England will play the West Indies in three ODIs and an equal number of T20Is. On May 29, the opening ODI is scheduled to take place in Birmingham.
