Afghanistan will visit Zimbabwe for a single Test and three T20Is in October of this year. The two teams were intended to play two Tests, three ODIs, and three T20Is under the Future Tours Programme. Afghanistan last played Zimbabwe in Zimbabwe in December 2024 and January 2025.
All four matches will take place at the Harare Sports Club. This will be the first time the venue has hosted a red-ball game in four years. Zimbabwe has lost all nine of its home Tests, which have been played at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.
The previous time Zimbabwe hosted Afghanistan in 2024/25, they lost the multi-format series.
The three-match T20I series finished 1-2. Afghanistan won two matches in the 50-over leg, the first of which was washed out. Afghanistan drew and won both Tests.
Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) has opted to give increased weightage to T20Is, as per. Zimbabwe may need the matches to get ready for the T20 World Cup 2026. They are in the semi-final of the ongoing Africa Regional Qualifier. If they beat Kenya, they will qualify for the T20 World Cup which will be held in India and Sri Lanka next year. Zimbabwe missed out on the 2024 T20 World Cup due to a loss to Uganda in the qualifiers.
In case Zimbabwe book their spot at the mega event which will take place next year, ZC will seek additional fixtures between November this year and April next year. The Chevrons may look to square off against a team like Namibia (also in the semi-finals of the T20 qualifier) and it is also being reported that teams like the Netherlands and Nepal also might be on the radar. The Zimbabwean lost five T20Is on the bounce earlier in 2025. Now, they have now emerged victorious in six of their last nine fixtures.
