In the penultimate over of The Hundred, Deepti Sharma was batting at 10 runs off 15 balls, and her team, London Spirit, was hoping for a miracle. There was a lot of sweat in the dressing room since six runs were required in three deliveries and Deepti was having trouble connecting. The India all-rounder, though, kept her composure and left her crease to smash a six to seal the victory for London.
As soon as several players rushed to rejoice with Deepti, the atmosphere in the dressing room instantly altered. The 26-year-old, who was the designated hitter, spoke candidly about the entire ordeal, saying she chose to accept accountability and see the game through. The cricket player, who was born in Agra, continued by saying that she did not want to extend the game because that would have increased the burden on the squad. Instead, she wanted to end it on the ball.
“The mindset was to finish off the game as quickly as possible, so with four runs needed off three balls, I thought that the match has to be finished at this moment and on this delivery, instead of dragging it to the last two three balls,” Deepti was cited by News18 as saying.
Being the only set batter at the moment, she continued, “I felt that I had to assume that responsibility on myself to finish the game, and that’s how finishing the game on this very delivery emerged in my mind.”
